I should work if you execute it from within the contrib directory:

$ pwd
~/cherokee-0.7.1/contrib
$ ./06to07.py 0.6_file 0.7_file
$
============

It will change the rules structure, but it will not add the default  
mime types. You can simply copy and paste them from / 
cherokee.conf.sample in the source directory.
